Discovery and Collaboration Genzyme Oncology is building a foundation in cancer treatment with a strong focus on discovery in both antibody and small molecule based therapies. Our lead products are Campath® (alemtuzumab), a humanized monoclonal antibody and Clolar® (clofarabine) a small molecule nucleoside analog. Ongoing discovery utilizes a broad range of target discovery, target validation and drug development technologies. Genzyme Oncology is also working in active collaboration with partner companies and academic institutions to identify and develop new therapies. |
Genzyme Completes Enrollment in Pivotal, Phase 2 Clinical Trial of Clofarabine in Adult AML
Genzyme Corp. (Nasdaq: GENZ) announced on Dec 5, 2007 that the company has completed enrollment of a phase 2 clinical trial examining the safety and effectiveness of Clolar® (clofarabine) in previously untreated, older adult patients with acute myelogenous leukemia (AML) who are unlikely to benefit from standard induction therapy. Data from this study are expected to provide substantial evidence for expanding the current product label into adult AML.

Bioenvision Shareholders Approve Acquisition by Genzyme Corporation
Genzyme Corporation (Nasdaq: GENZ) and Bioenvision, Inc. (Nasdaq: BIVN) announced on October 22, 2007 that Bioenvision stockholders had voted to approve the acquisition of the company by Genzyme at a reconvened special shareholder meeting in New York.
